Proper English Cottage Pie is a delicious, very traditional mince pie (beef) topped with mashed potato. Wonderful cottage pie, reminds me of the meals I had in my British school's canteen. I followed the recipe for everything except the green peas coz I do not have them on hand. I use a bigger onion instead.

  2. Take 4 stalks Asparagus

For a shepherd's pie, use lamb. This is a meat and carb heavy dish, so it goes really well with fresh side salads like a Rocket Salad with Balsamic Dressing, or a Garden Salad with French or Italian Dressing. I recently served it with this Carrot Salad with a Honey Dijon Dressing which was a hit!. For a cosy meal on a cold winter night, try it with a side of Glazed Roasted Carrots and Sautéed.

Steps to make Cottage pie:
  1. Remove chicken skin and cut into cubes heat oil in pan
  2. Peel potatoes add garlic and half if onion and boil. Once cooked mash all ingredients and set aside
  3. Chop remaining vegetables and add with chicken into pan and fry till cooked
  4. Once cooked add butter till melted then add flour one spoon at a time and stir into chicken mixture for 5 minutes add salt and pepper to taste
  5. Add milk to chicken mixture and stirs till thickened. Empty into oven compatible dish
  6. Spread potatoes mixture on top of chicken till it covers all chicken
  7. Sprinkle cheese on top then place in oven for 15 minutes or until slightly brown and cheese has melted
  8. Serve with a salad or side of your choice
  9. Ready to serve and ENJOY!

I recently served it with this Carrot Salad with a Honey Dijon Dressing which was a hit!. For a cosy meal on a cold winter night, try it with a side of Glazed Roasted Carrots and Sautéed. Boil the potatoes until soft and mash them with the milk until smooth and creamy. Spoon the meat mixture into a gratin dish and cover with a thick, even layer of mashed potato.
