Place the filled idli racks in the steamer. Open the steamer and insert a knife or a pick to test whether the idli's are cooked.   1. Soak one cup of udad dal in 2 cups of water for 4 to 5 hours then blend and keep it to ferment overnight. Consistency of the batter should be thick, pourable.
  2. Soak the idli rava in water and leave it overnight. Pour the excess water over the idli rava batter out later.
  3. Then mix both these batters of idli rava and blended udad dal or lentil dal. Mix thoroughly, to this add a tsp of salt.
  4. Take a idli container and pour 2 to 3 cups of water in it and close the cover. This water should boil inside the vessel.
  5. When you see steam coming out of the vessel that means water is boiling. Then open the cover meanwhile grease the moulds of the idli tray with tsp of oil and pour the idli batter in it. Alternate you could use your pressure cooker and place the idli tray but in case of a pressure cooker not to use the whistle.
  6. Steam the idli for 10 to 12 minutes
  7. Then Allow to cool for 3 to 4 minutes. Carefully open the lid remove the idli tray out and scrape out the idli gently with the help of a spoon
  8. Serve with chutney or sambar.
  9. Ready to serve and ENJOY!
