BUT Zwetschgen aren't ordinary plums, a Datschi isn't really a Kuchen, and a Kuchen is most definitely not a cake! Or at least not a tall, spongy cake – it's flatter.
Instructions to make Plum cake:
- Grease a pie pan and place plums cut side down in it
- Heat water and sugar over medium heat without stirring til caramel and immediately pour over the plums
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- Cream butter and sugar. Then add eggs one at a time.
- Mix in sour cream, lemon zest, and vanilla
- In another bowl mix dry ingredients and then add to butter mixture. Mix until just incorporated
- Pour over plums and spread evenly. Bake for 30 to 40 min.
- Let cool for 15 min and invert onto a plate
- Ready to serve and ENJOY!
BUT Zwetschgen aren't ordinary plums, a Datschi isn't really a Kuchen, and a Kuchen is most definitely not a cake! Or at least not a tall, spongy cake – it's flatter. Combine cinnamon and remaining sugar; sprinkle over plums. For topping, in a small bowl, combine flour and sugar; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Plum Cake is a delicious coffee cake made with a simple batter, fresh plums, and a cookie-like nut-free streusel topping!
